Bike Lesson

by Hannah Grieco

My daughters in their bath.
Laughing wet water growls
A long, submerged recovery.

In the kitchen, my husband yells.
Our son mimics his
pinched impotence so casually.

I scrub and scold.
Kissing damp arms and legs in
ritual repair.

The world is remorseless.
Light scratches fatten quickly into
hot, red darts down their limbs.
